International Historical Tournaments of Billiards

Welcome to IHTOB, the documentation of all major international championships and tournaments in carom billiards.

Our aim is to provide a detailed and comprehensive presentation of the World and European Championships as well as World Cups, Grand Prix and notable international competitions of all disciplines – supplemented with stories, anecdotes and unusual events. May this site be a treasure trove for anyone interested in our sport.

It begins with the first official world championship in 1903 in Paris (FR) in Cadre 45/2 and extends to the present day, covering all disciplines of carom.

A review of the early professional tournaments from the second third of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century is also planned, but will have to wait a long time.

In addition to the extensive documentation with all results and details of (almost) every single game, there is background information, special features and modalities – enriched with numerous illustrations.

One more word about our research work: The basis of all descriptions is, as far as possible, the authentic original material from the tournaments, such as tournament tableaus, scoresheets and reports, publications, including international billiard newspapers. All sources available to us have been thoroughly checked, recalculated and corrected. Thus, according to our current state of knowledge, the documentation is correct and almost complete.

We hope that this will provide you with an archive, a treasure trove and an entertaining read.
